2016 Toyota RAV4 vs 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid

A pioneer in the compact crossover segment, the Toyota RAV4 provides drivers with a potent combination of power, performance, efficiency, utility and style that is tough to pass up. While that may be plenty for some, it was not for Toyota engineers who have added the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid to the model lineup. With the added advantage of hybrid technology, the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is the most powerful and efficient Toyota RAV4 to date. Take a closer look at the differences between the Toyota RAV4 models in this 2016 Toyota RAV4 vs 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid comparison.

As the eighth hybrid in the Toyota model lineup, the 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is a welcome addition to the Toyota RAV4 stable. More powerful and more efficient than standard, gas-powered Toyota RAV4 models, the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is a class-exclusive option that is sure to impress. When it comes to the Toyota RAV4, car shoppers will benefit from an all-new RAV4 SE trim level that incorporates a sport-tuned suspension, a loaded interior, paddle shifters and a two-tone paint scheme. Both standard and hybrid models improve safety with the available Toyota Safety Sense collision-prevention systems and employ the standard Toyota Entune interface for entertainment.

Differences Between the 2016 Toyota RAV4 and 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid

When you compare the 2016 Toyota RAV4 and 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, the first factor that you will notice is a difference in price. Standard Toyota RAV4 LE trim levels start at an affordable $24,350 and feature the standard Toyota Entune interface with a 6.1-inch touchscreen. Toyota RAV4 XLE Hybrid models start at $28,370 and provide drivers with hybrid power and efficiency in addition to a more refined cabin design and a wider range of features.

Power and fuel economy are highlights of the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and are key elements in this comparison. While standard Toyota RAV4 models employ an athletic and efficient 176-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 24 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway, the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid takes performances to new heights. A Hybrid Synergy Drive system employs a refined 2.5-liter Atkinson cycle four-cylinder engine and a small, high-torque electric motor to manufacture a fun-to-drive 194 horsepower. Controlled by an ultra-efficient continuously variable transmission, the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid will make 34 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. A standard Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive system will further improve performance for hybrid editions and can be matched by the available Dynamic Torque Control All-Wheel Drive system of the Toyota RAV4.

Although Toyota RAV4 Hybrid models stand out in terms of performance, the standard Toyota RAV4 is not without its own advantages. Cargo space and versatility are elements that make the iconic Toyota RAV4 stand out from the crowd. A cavernous 38.4 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row is among class leaders and expands to a utilitarian 73.4 cubic feet with seats laid flat. Hybrid editions with additional electrical components do not possess the same wealth of cargo space, providing drivers with 70.6 cubic feet.
